Environmental Education and Training Partnership

Project Learning Tree (PLT) is a partner in the Environmental Education Training Partnership (EETAP), the national training program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Environmental Education.

Since EETAP's beginning in 1995, PLT has worked with partners to lay the foundation for quality environmental education nationwide. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point College of Natural Resources serves as the managing partner of EETAP. Current EETAP partner organizations are:

  • Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development
  • Groundwater Foundation
  • National Environmental Education Advancement Project
  • North American Association for Environmental Education
  • Northern Illinois University
  • Ohio State University
  • Project del Rio
  • Project Learning Tree
  • Project WET
  • World Wildlife Fund

One of PLT's main areas of involvement with EETAP is coordinating many of the professional development activities. PLT is working to:

  • Build stronger pre-service educator training.
  • Support the development and dissemination of state correlations to EE curriculum.
  • Partner with urban-based organizations to better reach urban audiences.
  • Increase EE training in Spanish-speaking communities.
  • Conduct professional development workshops for non-formal EE educators.
  • Support the EETAP States Program.

The Environmental Education and Training Partnership Releases National Report on Environmental Education Providers

EETAP released the results of a recent national survey concerning the role environmental education program providers play in capacity building to improve and increase environmental education (EE) across the country. The study was conducted to better understand the intersection of capacity building and professional development in relationship to environmental educators. The research findings will help formalize links between EETAP EE provider networks (Project Learning Tree, Project WET, World Wildlife Fund, and Project WILD), state EE associations, and state EE Leadership Teams to avoid duplication efforts, maximize cooperation, and share resources, ideas, and personnel.
