April 24, 2003 is GreenWorks! Day in Bismarck, North Dakota

Who:   John Warford, the Honorable Mayor of Bismarck, North Dakota

What:   Declares April 28, 2003 as GreenWorks! Day in Bismarck, North Dakota

Where:   At the United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck.

Why:   The Theodore Jamerson Elementary School and the North Dakota Forest Service will be working together to plant trees on the college campus as part of the event, featuring a traditional Native American Tree Planting Ceremony conducted by Lakota Sioux Tribal Member, Tom Red Bird.

This tree planting project is part of Greenworks!, an environmental education and community action program of the American Forest Foundation's Project Learning Tree (PLT). PLT coordinators and their students survey the needs of their areas and design action projects. GreenWorks! Action projects offer opportunities for people of all ages to work together to enhance their surroundings and share in the rewards of an improved environment.

The students and staff of Theodore Jamerson Elementary School, as well as representatives from both the United Tribes Technical College and the North Dakota Forest Service, will take part in this exciting day! Special thanks to GreenWorks! grant recipients, Hank LaBore and his K-8 Health class for their outstanding Native American Ceremonial Tree Beautification project that culminated in this event!
