Project Learning Tree’s Environmental Education Newsletter Receives Award from the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development

Washington, D.C. – Project Learning Tree’s quarterly newsletter, the Branch, received an award for Outstanding Achievement in Network Publications from the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

The Branch received the award on behalf of ASCD’s Environmental Education Network for its outstanding editorial content and graphics. The award was presented to Kathy McGlauflin, Director of Project Learning Tree and Senior Vice President of Education with the American Forest Foundation, on March 14 at ASCD’s national conference in Orlando, FL.

ASCD Networks are member-initiated groups designed to unite people around a common area of interest in the field of education. A total of 34 different networks, sponsored by ASCD but operated independently, provide a forum for members to share information and resources, exchange ideas, and grow professionally. ASCD’s Environmental Education Network is facilitated by Kathy McGlauflin and Imad Aoun of Project Learning Tree and hosted by the North American Association of Environmental Education.

Judges for ASCD’s Network Publications awards described the editorial of the Branch as “informative and engaging.” They said “the writing is clear and concise” and “content is very relevant and useful, and targets [the] intended audience.” They also said “Overall the design of the newsletter is solid and color photos that show environmental education in action enliven the content.”

Project Learning Tree staff would like to thank all those who contribute articles, tips, and ideas for the Branch. PLT State Coordinators, facilitators, educators and natural resource professionals help make this newsletter a useful resource for environmental educators. The newsletter is currently distributed to 37,000 environmental educators nationwide.
