Why Participate as an Exchange Box Partner?
Preparing an environmental exhange box will give your students a chance to learn more about their own region and the things that are special about it. Then, when they receive an exchange box from another region, they can compare environments, people, and much more.

Environmental Exchange Box Experiences
In April 2005, the grade 1 French  immersion class from Victoria, Canada participated in an environmental box exchange with several grade 7 classes from Pennsylvania. Living along the ocean allowed us to share our west coast environment with our southern neighbors. We included a CD Rom of coastal marine life, plaster castings of common seashells, stories of local wildlife, maps of hiking trails, native plant guides, pictures of local sights, brochures from our local ferry system, poems, collections of sea glass or "mermaids tears", and even a local geocache. In return, we received student created posters of native plants and animals, a video tour of their local environment, and photo collages of their local environment in Pennsylvania. The most surprising aspect of this project for the students was how many aspects, plant and animal, of both environments were shared. It was a great experience and the cooperation from our exchange partner was terrific!
