Parents’ Choice Recommends PLT’s “Billy B Sings About Trees”

By PLT Staff

Project Learning Tree Presents: Billy B Sings About Trees has been designated a 2009 Parents’ Choice Recommended Award winner.

In her review, long-time Parents' Choice music critic Lynne Heffley and former staff writer for 25 years at the Los Angeles Times described the CD:

“What is a tree? How does it grow? Children's music artist Billy B. Brennan serves as a musical guide through the life cycle, anatomy, beauty and usefulness of trees. Tuneful songs deftly impart real information. Subjects: photosynthesis, tree pollination, flowers, seeds and seedlings; bark and roots, fruits, nuts and maple syrup; and the ways that a dead tree enriches the earth and provides a home for countless living things.”

The CD comprises nineteen songs, such as “My Roots Run Deep” and “The Rock and Roll of Photosynthesis.” Lyrics for the songs are included with the CD. The cost for the CD is $15, which includes shipping and handling. To order, call 1-888-889-4466, or complete an order form.

Teachers can find age-appropriate Project Learning Tree activities to complement each song from Project Learning Tree’s PreK-8 Environmental Education Activity Guide. Parents and families can use a collection of “Connecting Kids to Nature” activities, based on PLT’s PreK-8 Guide activities, to engage children in the outdoors. They can be downloaded from www.learnoutside.org/familyactivities.html.

Billy B. Brennan has been writing and performing children’s song and dance shows with environmental themes since 1978. Project Learning Tree Presents: Billy B Sings About Trees, his ninth collection of song recordings, consists of a mix of re-released and new songs, many of them inspired by Project Learning Tree.

“I love to engage kids in learning about the environment through music,” says Billy B. “Not only will children, parents, and families enjoy this latest collection of high-energy songs all about trees and forests, but teachers can combine the songs with the Project Learning Tree curriculum materials to enhance student learning in the classroom,” he said. “It is my hope that teachers and kids working together, or on their own, use these songs to inspire wonder and appreciation for these great plants.”
